Recovery Isn't Just for Athletes: Why We All Need to Recover Better
By Coach Jack · 18 August 2026
Recovery isn't just for athletes. Discover how contrast therapy, infrared sauna, ice baths and guided breathwork can help you slow down, switch off and recharge at Contrast Recovery in Holmes Chapel.
When you hear the word recovery, it's easy to think of athletes.
Someone who's just finished a marathon. A HYROX competitor after a tough event. Or somebody who's trained particularly hard in the gym and wants to reduce that inevitable soreness the following day.
And yes, recovery is incredibly important when you're training.
But what about recovering from everything else?
You Don't Have to Be an Athlete to Need Recovery
Modern life can be exhausting.
Work. Kids. Emails. Phones. Poor sleep. Long commutes. Sitting at a desk all day. Trying to fit everything into a week that never seems to have enough hours in it.
Sometimes we're not physically exhausted because we've trained too hard.
We're just… tired.
And that's one of the things we've really noticed since opening Contrast Recovery in Holmes Chapel. People aren't only visiting us because they're serious about exercise.
They're coming because they want some time to themselves.
45 Minutes Where Nothing Else Matters
A Contrast Recovery session gives you 45 minutes in your own completely private recovery suite.
No sharing the sauna with strangers. No sitting around waiting for an ice bath to become available.
Just you – or you and someone you've chosen to bring along.
Your session combines an infrared sauna, professionally chilled ice bath and guided breathwork, allowing you to alternate between heat and cold at your own pace.
The sauna is your opportunity to slow everything down. It's warm, peaceful and relaxing.
The ice bath is almost the complete opposite!
There's something incredibly powerful about stepping into cold water. For those few minutes, it's virtually impossible to think about your emails, tomorrow's jobs or what's happening on your phone.
Your entire focus becomes controlling your breathing and staying calm.
Then you get out.
And that's the bit people quickly start to understand.
It's Difficult to Describe Until You've Tried It
People often tell us they leave feeling refreshed, energised and clearer-headed.
For some, it's about recovery after exercise. For others, it's about relaxation, wellbeing or simply doing something positive for themselves.
There's no requirement to be fit. You don't need to be training for anything. And you certainly don't need to be one of those people who enjoys jumping into freezing lakes!
That's exactly why we created Contrast Recovery.
A comfortable, private environment where anyone can experience contrast therapy in Cheshire, without needing to know what they're doing beforehand.
We'll guide you through the whole experience.
So whether you've had a tough week of training, a tough week at work, or you simply fancy trying something completely different, maybe it's time to think about recovery a little differently.
Because recovery isn't just for athletes.
Sometimes we all need to press reset.
