Why Every HYROX Athlete Should Be Doing Simulation Events

By Coach Jack · 26 June 2026

Discover why HYROX simulation events have become an essential part of race preparation. From first-timers building confidence to experienced athletes refining their performance, learn how JWC's professionally run simulations provide the closest thing to an official HYROX race in a supportive, coaching-led environment.

Why Every HYROX Athlete Should Be Doing Simulation Events

If you've spent any time in the HYROX world, you'll already know that getting hold of official race tickets has become an event in itself.

Races sell out within minutes, athletes are travelling all over Europe to find available events, and for many people there's simply too long between races to properly measure progress.

That's exactly why I believe a good simulation event has become one of the most valuable training tools available.

Notice I said good simulation.

Not all HYROX sims are created equal.

At JWC, we've now hosted more than 40 simulation events over the past two years, with people travelling from all over the North West (and often much further) to take part. Even better, many of them come back time and time again.

Why?

Because we've always tried to create something that's as close to an official HYROX event as possible, whilst still remembering that this is ultimately about helping people improve.

That starts with getting the fundamentals right.

The run distances are correct. The stations are completed in the official order. Every athlete is timed. We send athletes away in small waves to keep the flow of the event moving properly, rather than creating traffic jams around stations. We even organise those waves by category and ability, so whether you're chasing a PB or simply aiming to finish your first event, you'll be surrounded by people with a similar goal.

The biggest difference, however, isn't the equipment.

It's the atmosphere.

At an official HYROX race, judges have one job: enforce the standards.

At a JWC simulation, our coaches have a different job.

We're there to help.

If your sled position could be more efficient, we'll tell you.

If your wall ball technique is costing you time and energy, we'll show you how to improve it.

If you're wasting valuable seconds on transitions or approaching stations too aggressively, we'll help you find a better strategy.

Of course we'll keep the event as true to HYROX as possible, but we're far more interested in helping you become a better athlete than handing out penalties.

For first-timers, I honestly think this is one of the biggest advantages of doing a simulation before entering an official race.

HYROX can feel intimidating.

The atmosphere, the crowds, the unknown... it can all seem a bit overwhelming.

A simulation removes much of that uncertainty.

You learn how the race flows.

You experience pacing eight runs around eight functional stations.

You find out where your strengths are, where your weaknesses are, and perhaps most importantly, whether you've gone off far too quickly after the first kilometre (almost everyone does!).

Then there are the experienced athletes.

A simulation isn't just about seeing whether you're fitter than last time.

It's an opportunity to test new pacing strategies.

Practice race nutrition.

Refine station technique.

Experiment with transitions.

See whether all those hours of training have actually translated into better performance.

Sometimes you'll leave delighted.

Sometimes you'll leave with a list of things to improve.

Both outcomes are valuable.

One thing we're also particularly proud of is making HYROX more accessible.

Not everybody is ready—or wants—to complete the full distance.

That's why every one of our events includes a Half Simulation option.

It's the perfect stepping stone for somebody building confidence, recovering from injury, introducing a training partner to HYROX or simply looking for a really enjoyable challenge without committing to the full race.

And finally...

Some people come to chase qualification times.

Some come to prepare for their next official race.

Some come because they're curious about HYROX.

Others simply want a brilliant morning training with like-minded people.

Honestly, all of those reasons are equally valid.

At the end of the day, that's what our simulation events have always been about.

Not replacing official HYROX races.

Preparing you for them.

Or, if racing isn't your thing, simply giving you the chance to experience everything that's great about HYROX in an environment that's supportive, well organised and, most importantly, genuinely enjoyable.
