Momentum is a Cruel Mistress

“Never forget that momentum is a cruel mistress. She can turn on the dime with the smallest mistake. She is always searching for that weak place in your armour”.

This is a line from one of my favourite motivational speeches: ‘Rise & Grind’. (It's a psyche yourself up, YouTube motivational video, type speech!)

I often talk in consultations and seminars about momentum. It’s what I call ‘positive momentum’ and ‘negative momentum’. The principle is that momentum can work for you or against you, but even when working for you can almost instantly switch if you let it!

It seems fairly self-explanatory, and I bet you experience it much more often than you realise. It crops up in all areas of life but we see it commonly with exercise and nutrition motivation.

Have you ever started a new exercise routine, begun feeling the benefits, told yourself unequivocally that you’ll never stop and then BAM… that one occasion where you find yourself saying “not tonight” and the habit is broken. That’s all it takes. Negative momentum strikes and before you know it, you’re back to square one!

It doesn’t have to be that way!

This time, things can be different. This time YOU can choose to be in control.

Arm yourself for success. Don’t just make a plan… Set your goals down on paper and be crystal clear on the why behind your goals.

Continually remind yourself why this is so important to you.

Remember why you mustn’t go backwards.

This time you can succeed , but you must keep-moving-forwards, even if you feel like you’re swimming up-stream. Keep... Moving.. Forward.
